Wait people are hating Nintendo please explain again how Nintendo saved the game industry. "more mature lineup" this is simply a USA issue and its in a way a downside to are country if something doesn't blow up or if its not a shooter Americans don't care. Now i agree 100% Nintendo should do everything to get 3rd party support on their system something tells me its almost to late.

They need someone like a Phil Spencer as a new CEO, Shareholders should have more confident than playing it safe, like the Wii, take a risk.

Am glad Iwata kept his postion and I don't care what anybody says he will turn things around for Nintendo am sure and I'm sure the board know that and that is why he has kept his position

Why don't they just give him an understudy or Vice President that can handle the things Iwata can't?

    (October 29, 2017 - 3:47 pm)

The issue of whether Iwata should remain as el presidente of Nintendo appears to be an interesting case study in the differences between how Japanese people and American People feel about setbacks affecting a particular company. The only folks I've seen calling for Iwata and Miyamoto's head are westerners. I'm yet to see Japanese folks declare that removing them is the best way to freshen up Nintendo's approach.

While it can be argued that NIntendo and it's investors can be somewhat conservative and a little reluctant to embrace radical change one must remember that even though NIntendo has been around for well over a century they've only had 4 presidents and the previous 3 were from the Yamauchi family (it's founders). So it shouldn't come as a surprise that the board stuck with Iwata. Basically they don't think he screwed up that badly that removing him from his position is the best course of action.

Seems to me that folks in the west want NIntendo to do what Sony did with the PS4 and bow and scrape to the whims of 3rd party developers so that Nintendo can be part of the club that gets multi-plats. I guess it would be convenient for some to have a Nintendo console that has the best of their games plus third parties'. However Nintendo has never made their consoles specifically to suit third parties and I wouldn't expect that to change unless their first party games are no longer as profitable as they currently are.  My prediction is that Nintendo will continue to carve out a profitable niche to survive the long winter while the usurpers expend great amounts of cash and energy trying to out do each other.

IF Mario Kart 8 saved Iwata's approval rating. Isn't it possible that Iwata has to do is pump out another Mario Kart game and his approval rating sky rockets, so he remains president? I would like Iwata to leave Nintendo though =l

The last Nintendo product I've ever bought is the DSI. And man o man was that a piece of junk. My older than it PSP had WAY more functionality than it. I will never buy a Nintendo product again no matter if other games pop up on it. Just because a game that's been on Xbox and PS3 for years comes to wii won't make any difference to me. I already have that game on a different console. Why should i pay for it again? Sorry, Nintendo doesn't have a spot in my life anymore. Only systems i care about today are Ps4, Xbox (somewhat), and Pc. Nintendo has ruined their chance to still have another customer.

It all comes down to software. If you have great games and great console exclusive games, then the system will sell like crazy. The WiiU could still potentially make a comeback and end up winning this generation. Do I think it will happen? Probably not, but it's possible. I do think that they'll end up doing at least okay in the end, similar to how the GameCube did okay, but hopefully they'll do much better then that because okay is not good. They really need more 3rd party support if that's going to happen, though. Lately, 3rd parties have been giving up on the WiiU. That's a big problem that Nintendo needs to remedy ASAP.

Uh Rich, how does Nintendo having more mature titles going to solve their problems? If you ask me, maybe Sony and Microsoft should come out with more age restricted titles if Nintendo's going to come out with mature ones. In case you didn't realize Nintendo DID in fact have rated M gaming franchises of their own during the Gamecube era, Geist and Eternal Darkness and I think their was a few more too.

i am glad that they kept him, because had they brought someone new in who perhap doesn't care about making good games, Nintendo could become like Capcom, Activision, Ubisoft, and EA, pretty much doing everything to screw over the consumer over making good games.

The other factor is that most of Nintendo's shares are owned by a small number of conservative investors. Different dynamic then other corporations.

I think his previous successes have done good things to keep him on as well. Discounting even the Wii and DS, he always made some past. To boot him after the big profits from those, might be questionable.

This means there won't be any rated M titles. As long he is in charge it will never happen. They don't even have much rated T games either. I love Mario and Zelda but please give us something new. smh

What happened is that the sales of Nintendo platforms went back to reality after shooting into the stratosphere with the DS and Wii. The 3DS is on pace, more or less, that of Game Boy Advance, while the Wii U is slightly behind the GameCube's pace at this point in its life. To say they're "struggling" is to say they "struggled" from 2001 until 2006 during the GBA/GC era. If I had to make a prediction, I put 3DS slightly higher than the lifetime of the GBA- around 85 million, while I put the Wii U slightly below the N64 at around 30 million lifetime sales. Nintendo will always have their dedicated fanbase, so to say they'll "die" because they're losing/lost the casual gamers is just plain stupid!
