Why Are People Holding Nintendo To A Different Standard?

Share this article on social media.

People seem to be very angry that Nintendo will be offering DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. What concerns me is why is Nintendo being attacked for a practice the rest of the industry has done for YEARS? Is there something that I am missing?

Comparing Dying light to the Nintendo DLC is absolutely night and day comparison. The developer of Dying light actually took a mode out of a game in which "It was meant to be played".unless you preorder it. In which the game would probably would have a bunch of bugs that mostly all games that come out day 1 has. Nintendo is just giving you an OPTION to get the DLC. COmparing the two is completely different.

I was born in 1981. Through out the years I traded so many games or systems in. DLC or digital copies of old games is awesome. Storage is faster, larger, and cheaper than ever. Stop bitching, become PC master race, or stop being cheap.

I wouldn't pay for online services with Nintendo, mostly because there just isn't that many online multiplayer games.

And this isn't the first time Nintendo is making DLC.

This rant will go off the subject of this video. This gets even sadder because for the past generations of kids (it might be the current one)have also held Nintendo to higher standards . They even say "Nintendo is for kids.", so the corruption of this generation is really bad . Kids these days want to play what the big kids play (m rated games). You know who fault this is: parents becoming blind enablers (and siblings) or Microsoft and Sony. Correct answer is both , despite Sony having more children friendly content on there consoles. These people are the reason why most kids are so messed up . Parents and older siblings need to start acting mature and do the right thing.

"other copanies shit on customers, so why cant nintendo?"

you're paying for the server's Sony Xbox and Nintendo don't want to pay for the servers themselves if you want to play online so badly they passed the bill to you that makes it fair.

Rich, you make it sound like we're not angry that other companies make you pay for DLC as well.

    We are.

We don't want to see Nintendo go down this route, as well.

    Because, really…

What will separate Nintendo from Sony and Microsoft?

they should of named it the "sponge" because it soaks up all your money!

…because there has been a bias against Nintendo since the mid-90's…that's why….that arguably started with the dip-shit, incestuous "gaming press".

i just hate DLC in general

Nintendo has done a damn fine job with DLC in their games so far and I don't think they're going to so easily carelessly fuck their streak with Zelda.

Honestly I think the hard mode is a lot more than what it sounds like. It's not like Nintendo to put something as small as a higher difficulty behind a paywall. Whenever there was a mode with extra damage, they've referred to it as "Hero Mode", but when they announced the DLC they called it a "New Hard Mode". What's so new about it? Why aren't they calling it hero mode like the other games?

I think it's going to be something like Master Quest where dungeons got drastically changed. What if Hero mode not only makes enemies tougher, but changes all of the shrines and main dungeon to really test your mind? That sounds like the kind of thing that would make a good DLC.

I have always been the type of guy to play PC games and PlayStation. But I think my PS4 will be the last PlayStation I buy because these days PC gaming is just so much better, and so much cheaper.
I played single player games on PC and multiplayer games on PlayStation (because that's where my friends play) but these days I barely even play with my friends. I prefer to play solo.
And fuck ninteno's home console, never fancied a wii or switch. But I do like my GameBoy and 3DS

So from now on just buying PC upgrades and nintendo handhelds. RX480 and I5 6500 should last a good few years.

as long as it is quality DLC, i can stand it, if it breaks into microtransactions…

The Yakuza series doesn't have paid dlc and that's fucking Sega.
A series that already has a shit ton of content to it in it's base game.

People defending stuff like this is why multiplayer shooters come out with 1/10th the maps they used to, why 20 hours to completion is considered long, and why paying to use your own internet connection to access a P2P network is considered acceptable.

The reason people hold Nintendo to a different standard is because they're the only publisher that still has standards to hold them to. But not anymore I guess. We're so brainwashed at this point that Nintendo doesn't even need to justify their terrible hardware and lack of 3rd party support by consistently delivering full-package, feature complete games anymore.

Honestly, I wasn't very annoyed until I found out only one of the DLC will have a story.

The concept of DLC is flawed, though, for anyone. It's usually overpriced for what it is. If the DLC was better it would be fine.

    (September 14, 2017 - 11:16 am)

Yea, Nintendo has been doing DLC since Fire Emblem Awakening on 3DS and if you count the Toys to Life as a form of DLC, they've been doing it since Pokemon Rumble U. They don't always get the model right and sometimes things feel way more expensive then they should be, such as Smash Bros. DLC + Amiibos (which all together comes out to like $400+ USD), however other times the DLC is extremely reasonable such as Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8.

As for LoZ: BotW, the only real complaint to be had is a difficulty mode locked behind it, which DOES suck regardless of what company does it. Outside of that, the Season Pass is what…. $20? That's very reasonably priced for a season pass in comparison to most companies.

Sometimes I wonder if all the people that argue about the low internal memory space of Nintendo consoles actually do play their consoles.
Sony and MS give a console with 500 GB….but require you to install the games, and many games demand 10% or more of that space (GTA for examole) so it's not like them doing that because they want to please costumers. They put that much Hd space because without it, it would be impossible to play any games, or players would spent a very very long time waiting loadings when playing.
I have a PS4 and it's a huge deal. I can not install all my games on it because only 06 games already consumed HALF of the Hd memory – only installation, not counting dlcs or updates. I really wanted to get a few digital games but If I do that I will need to manage the Hd space every time I get a new one or every time one of my family members want to play, erasing those huge games installation data. That's horrible because if I want to check any game of my collection I will always go into the painful process of installing them again and again because the Hd can't hold all data of a small collection of games.
Nintendo consoles, on the other side, NEVER require installation. So the HD space is used just for updates and DLCs. Currently I have data of 44 games on my 32Gb WiiU (inclusing updates and saves) and complete sets of DLCs for seven games – and there's still some space. For digital games, I just had to buy a simple, cheap 64Gb USB drive because most Nintendo games are not huge. I have 28 games on that tiny device (04 full retail games, 08 eshop games, 05 wii games, 12 indie games) plus 11 VC games and 06 apps too.
We all know that the Switch won't require installation too since its games are coming on cards and not on discs, so people will only need to buy a cheap memory card and do the same thing they already did on the Wiiu or the 3ds.
So this lack of internal memory is not the hell of a issue people are arguing about. Yes, it could be better, but the way Nintendo makes their games to work provides a more comfortable and easy way to deal with data storage, because you never need too much data – unless of course someone is really lazy to go to the stores and just want games on digital format

    (September 14, 2017 - 11:16 am)

This argument is shit. To the point that I almost think it should be deleted out of embarrassment for how really fucking bad it is. Why are people just now getting pissed about DLC? Are you serious? People have been bitching about DLC since it started. This is like some revisionist shit. You do the gaming community a disservice with this misrepresentation. Who hasn't been criticized for DLC? Why should Nintendo be held to a different standard? Huuurrr?

    Worthless Opinion

    (September 14, 2017 - 11:16 am)

This is fucking Zelda we're talking about. It shouldn't be tainted by shitty DLC practices. I will call out every other company for doing this, and I'll call out Nintendo too.

    (September 14, 2017 - 11:16 am)

Rich I don't think the problem is that Nintendo is doing it. I think the problem people have is that it's just one more company trying to get over on us gamers or trying to milk us instead of focusing on producing better content. Personally I only despise lazy or bad dlc, or on disk dlc. P.s. You are spot on with paid online services.

    (September 14, 2017 - 11:16 am)

Nintendo shouldn't have announced the DLC so early. I feel like if Nintendo waited until the summer or at least after launch, less people would have complained.
